Thing,

Please don't take my post the wrong way but frankly, you did go beyond recommending a few good shops; you also said the others were below standard. There are so few cue shops in Singapore, you do not have to mention them by name; it is easy enough to identify the shops in this latter category.

Since it is the shops you’re referring to can be identified, the issue of whether your statement is defamatory arises. On the face of it, I think it is. I'm going by general principles because the law of defamation isn't within my usual scope of practice. If you wish, we can discuss this in greater detail, either by pm or by posting in the forum.

but i didn't mention any of them did i? while i agree in some ways that upe and hsb has set a benchmark for the rest, i made no mention of them as i've not gone there to have them service my cue or made a purchase there. there are something like 10+ pool shops in singapore alone and i've made mention of only 5. does that mean i'm saying that all the others are lousy/below par when i've not gone there either?

Also, there is an issue as to whether Poolfanatic.com is legally implicated (somewhat like a newspaper that is sued for publishing a defamatory statement made by a third party.) I’m sure you have no wish to drag an innocent party into this.

Having pointed out the issues of defamation to you, whether or not any of the shops thus identified chooses to sue is, of course, another matter. But why take the risk in the first place when you can be more circumspect and yet still be effective in your comments?

hmmm seems that you guys are taking things a bit too far now. first i would like to ask you, what was the primary concern of this thread? secondly, when i posted did anyone made mention of the words "imho". (for those who don't know it means "in my humble opinion") yet now you're saying i'm defaming the cue shops and implicating poolf.com by making a) no mention of them b) saying that some of them whose names i've not mentioned are lousy/below par.

It would have been good if you could say in your defence that you had personal experience (proving it is another matter) but it is quite clear from your post that you can't. You’re taking an awful risk in making such a statement in reliance on the feedback of other people. What if they refuse to support you in your defence?

when i 'said' (typed) those words i weighed them carefully. i've had countless bad experiences dealing with the different shops even within my list of 3. you've assumed i haven't been able to prove it, but its simply becuz the thread was not abt bad personal experiences but about which shop would the invididual recommend, which i think i did my utmost before it became a mudslinging session of not mentioning upe and hsb, like a reality check here please? so i did make a huge error (not turned into woohaa of the day) by missing out the words 'my' in the sentence 'the other shops have much fallen short of my standards. (eg inflated prices, bad salesmanship etc etc) '

At the end of the day, I would agree with you that as consumers we all have a freedom of choice, but you do not have the freedom of speech (at least, not in Singapore) to the extent that you can state something that could well damage the business reputation of someone else, unless you can prove that you have justification.

Please treat whatever I have stated as a cautionary note. No offence intended.

i personally feel and can see that i've not done any damage to any cue shop (mentioned or not mentioned), if so point them out would you please?

basically, i cannot how much hype this has attracted over a missing word and someone else misunderstanding the posts i've made. i apologise if i've hurt any ego/business reputation/confidence in anyway, even though i've seen no wrong doing on my part.

shall wait to see how this goes. i honestly think its a humongous joke and i can't help thinknin that a LAWYER is giving me a note of caution. "sacarsm"OMGOMGOMG like i'm gonna piss in my pants like that."/sacarsm"
