just came back from the San Miguel Asian 9 ball championships which Efrem Reyes won in convincing style. and 6 hours on your ass in a stuffy place with like a 100 other pple is bound to kill your mood irregardless of what the occasion is. anyways learnt only a bit of technique but it was a bit magical. and yes "The Magician" can also be called "The Comedian". heh he quite funny acting cute.
anyways, yesterday went to AA2004 or Asian Aerospace 2004 and it was quite ok lah. will put the photos up in webshots and give you guys the link later.

went to hospital to check on my dad. he got admitted yesterday for a minor op today. then he's like ok lah but his neck rather strained so he can't lie down much and i can't do much as well.

think am gonna make some changes to the cue. gonna put a silver ring at the joints A and B, have the back like the pfd cue in yesterday's pic which will be a black delrin butt cap and a ring of probably ivorine/phenolic. and get an extra shaft.

went for lingwei's concert and i do think there's some form of mix up somewhere or nots. cuz when i found out abt it, it was on sunday then happened that lingwei had a spare tix (grace's -- he said she couldn't make it or sth) so i took it over and didn't take much about it till i saw her blog which reads like this

the performance was quite ok and stuff (though david kept complaining about the background lighting and i felt that the piano often drowned out the choir to some extent) and lingwei's time on the piano was excellent and although i would feel its not too bad but i really feel is that i can't appreciate it as well as whoever likes choral performances. i (somehow like david) am more attuned to instrumental or orchestral performances, cuz hearing someone sing in a language i've got no grasp of like latin and hebrew is not really that good as hearing the sounds of the many instruments. oh well to each his or her own.

played guard again today with jere and kelvin and yes the poor sucker still doesn't know what hit him. he's like down 60 in 2 days. too bad he ain't playin till at least next week heh. some incredible shots like a try to bank a six rockets the nine into pocket the six was intended for. and then a few chances to break clear but all got careless like after the 3rd ball.
then went to church to help vincent and teng joo to do some recording. think they're doing a series of videos of parables and stuff as well as english lessons and stuff. think there's some piano thing too. and like woah the camera i got to use was like ^^ extremely fun. learning to do audio editting and some video edittin too. the part on the parables was the "parable of the persistent widow" and running through the whole thing was like a good reminder cum refresher on the current yf theme of messages.
went to PH later and then realised they only had 3 tables open cuz they just changed all the cloth for the tables. so went to cue bar with edwin and its quite a nice place lah. didn't play too badly but was too relac haha..in the end left abt 11 and was totally shagged by then. dunnoe if i'm gonna stay later for the game.

heh just came back. at home on a tuesdays early for a change. its been awhile since i had a tuesday off. broke my resolution to not play pool for the rest of the week.
so jq pon-ed school again and came by my place..then we took a cab with grace down to great world to catch "Mystic River". haha..and yes up to the 2 hour mark i was still wondering why the show was named such. and i really must say its quite a good show at the end. well written script, class act by the actors and a twist in the tale. shan't tell you who killed katherine (not too sure abt the victim's name heh).
then left them and went to rc to play pool with jere and his friend. played guard and like doubled my money. jere's had a 150% increase. lucky dude and poor chap. got 'sandwiched' really badly. and i played better than yesterday at least with my bk. tmrw that guy gonna play again and woohoo it seems he doesn't know what hit him so far. shall have to bring my top game out tmrw. unless he's the one who's really hustling us then heh.

went out for lunch with joseph and johan after stoppin by my old school to try to help joseph with his CAD CAM but was beaten to it by his friend. and boy, was he friend good! haha..even i couldn't do such a good job heh. lunch was at al azhar then went to town to do some window shopping (more like watch johan do window shopping and pffftt he's like an old woman :P) went to ph after that. played like crap. felt super sleepy and in not much mood. so left ard 6 and went to collect my cues from theQshop and they actually managed to correct the warp on the jump and break cue. so went back there and played with a friend before heading back home. and this will be the only day this week that i'll play. (i'm trying heh)

another class done. and hopefully he doesn't default on his payment. was supposed to get 300 for the first batch and ended up getting 200 instead, and now he tells me i might not get the original 100 he promised. arghs. shall find out tmrw and discuss the take i'm getting from the other 2 classes. good news that greg from theQshop has agreed to give me a commission for any customer i bring in.

one more bc down...yippee.
having bad sinus attack today. went everywhere sneezing and having to chase a nose that does seem to have a lot of stamina. feeling quite tired all of a sudden. and yes another batch of students incoming, which means more work and more money. also must go down to the remittance centre to remit half of the cash for the cue later today. :) nites peeps!

had my medical today and boy was it crap. i got a pes b status when i can't even lift my own weight. shall have to go settle that asap. prob get my therapist and doctor to write letters to help me downgrade.
then went to play pool. yes like yesterday, i was playing like crap. shooting was off, position play was off and the break was somewhere on mars or sth. all the racks i broke all ended up with zilch on the break. i guess what saved me from paying was the lucky flukes and some funky two way shots. (me, jere, louis, imran - winner stay race to 6, last 3 pay) snooped till pple wanted to chop my head off. and jere..the bk only has ONE owner :P and it heeds my commands. hahaha..unfortunately it heeded them too well and even my break was affected.
went for yf after that. and it was a throughly edifying message about "What to Pray". went through the Lord's prayer and its meaning and importance to why we should pray in that way. also that when we pray, we must say it with confidence that it is granted already (for things according to His will) and that they shouldn't sound like words that we're just made to say without meaning and conviction. i esp think Prob 30:8-9 is all the more meaningful to me. "Proverbs 30:8-9 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain." truly are we like that, is our dependence on God only limited to asking for our daily needs only when we run short or when we are in very deep need?

talked to clarence today..went to his place to drop off the CNCG discs i borrowed but in the end i forgot to pass it back to him. (sorry bro!) anyways when i was there we were talking and stuff and i came upon this myself, that it is sad to see this common and rather disturbing trend nowadays. i see more and more pple ard me get attached and for the most part to break up a few weeks/mths later. (not that i'm sour grapes or all that) but its like what were their reasons?
see we came up to this conclusion, that all the more we should go after the "needs" in our lives and leave the "wants" behind. (of cuz there are always exceptions - like "want bk cuz i need it to break better or want jump cue cuz i need one - sold my jump cue" -- get the drift?) so for him is to work towards good health and results whereas for me is to go through army and try to progress to the next level in pool.
whereas talking about r/s..i guess i'll make my stand clear. in all my 19 (coming to 20) years, i've been alone and yet i'm not alone, and i'm happy the way it is, there's no rush..there's no commandment that says "Thou shalt be attached before 21..blah blah" (i hate it when pple think that in my mind i'm desperate to get a gf--grow up huh?) i thank God for bringing me thus far and i know He'll be there to see my thru the rest of my life.
sighh..tired. shall turn in after filling up my forms for my medical. tmrw got to meet someone who's interested in. one of the cues i'm selling at 12 noon. zz!

super tired
soccer in the morning was great. played fairly well..although same problems still stuck. find that i tend to forget what i'm doing when i'm playing in defence or even upfront. should cover the ground but always fail in that aspect. hmfph..one more thing to improve on.
went to EPT SG tour at Gamefusion in the afternoon. met up with alex (radikalz) and benny (roppongi). the latter was quite sharp. haha..arranged to meet them some other time like next weekend to play abit or in the evenings/afternoons. rushed off to pool haven after that. which was a total waste of my time. and i wouldn't have wanted to be there in the first place. some dumb referee briefing was going on and being the youngest there isn't gonna boost my future in competitive pool. crazy crap. him signing me up for things without really advising me. hate it. and yes you know who you are heh you are prob the only one who can and will twist my arm that way. made me feel so guilty i took a cab back.
yf was good. msg was really a refresher. makes me take my prayers more seriously. and after yf was EPL time. haha..joseph got his new phone and it caused wat? 4 blackouts! watched man u take the 3-0 lead against everton and then lose it in the 2nd half. really really dumb. thank goodness good ol' Ruud scored in the 89th to win it. then came back and restrung the acoustic guitar and the freakin string snapped #(*&#(%&#(%^# and my mum's naggin me like i chose to make the string snap *rolls eyes* full of bull man.
tmrw i will trade my joss for a bk and sell that to jere to make way for the kaiser km004. a very wierd downgrade in my own opinion haha..owells like i'll be playing a lot in the coming months till i get my custom cue. ;P

(wierd huh? give pple toto tix in angbaos?) anyways from the toto website it said, to win a Group 1 (top prize) the odds are 1 : 8 145 060! lol. morale of the story, dun waste money to buy toto cuz the chances you'll waste money is way too high. haha and yes there were two $1.4m winners (non-taxable by the way) :P

haha did my first 9 ball break clear (hears joseph laughin in the background) but nevermind. :) 1 down 99 to go! totally instroke today. was supposed to practice 8 ball for sat's EPT SG tour but ended up hittin 9 with this pinoy i met. his friend came along too and we had a race to 5, winner stay, last 2 pay for the table. won the first set with an impressive score of 5-0-0. lol..then 2nd set didn't do too well, losing 5-4-3. but had my break clear anyways ;)

anyways on the 2nd of Feb, the CPYF trotted out onto the field at Blk 50 (known as The Beach) for its testimonial match for Walther.
players present were: A-drain, James, Ben, Joseph, Jeremy, Lingwei, Lingkang, Danny, Charles, Tim, Elvin, Hsien, Jeremiah (friend of both me and joseph), Eugene, Walther (of course!), Jessen, Kah Onn (who were both late..lol) and me.
cheerleaders present were: Angeline, Lisa, Grace, Rachael, Sarah and JQ.
started the match like this: gk-hsien, rb-danny, lb-charles, cb-adrain, james, cm-ben, jeremiah, rm, joseph, lm-me, fw-eugene, walther.
match kicked off from right to left with Pandan in the orange/yellow/red and Galilee in the blue. Initially we were intent on playing the short game but alas the pitch was way too muddy and water logged for that. And soon because the ball wasn't gettin to the midfield and forwards fast enough that the defence came under siege and before long we conceeded the first of many goals. 0-1 to Galilee! Play continued scrappily and although we did battle hard before long, a poor clearance led to Galilee's 2nd goal. 0-2! Oh boy! Now we were in trouble heh. Some re-organization was done but to no avail as we lost the midfield battle. and just before half-time, a deflection of one of our weary defence gave them their 3rd goal and morale dropped. 0-3! although i would consider ourselves as unfortunate not to get a couple of goals and even a penalty as we had a couple of chances off the woodwork or saved by the keeper or cleared off the line.
coming out of the break, we reorganised and changed our plan to a more direct and pressing game, startin the 2nd half with changes were gk-joseph, rb-lingwei, lb-charles, cb-kah onn, ben, rm-jeremiah, lm-danny, cm-jessen, walther, fw-eugene, me. 0-4! a lapse of concentration led to us conceeding a goal almost straight away after the restart. but then when things were lookin really down, the changes did start to work this time and before long, messy defence play on their part and good hold up of the ball by walther helped us get a foot back into the match. 1-4! then we all were lifted up and knew that we can make it back in. then its was the Bear show all the way, with a brace to complete his hat-trick in abt 10 mins. the score was now 3-4! then yet another powerful shot which the keeper did well to save but not enough to stop the ball from fumbling into my path which was a simple tap in 4-4! however that goal sparked off a couple of outcries for offside (which i have no idea what concieved them) and almost a beginnning of a fight which both sides did their best to cool down. maybe the team was somewhat shaken by that and then when the next shot came in from them, it took a wicked deflection ending up in the back of the net. 4-5! also joseph could do nothing abt the next 1 on 1 and the score was nw 4-6! (well 4-6 definitely looked much better than 0-3 haha..) then a strong push towards the end saw a top corner shot by jeremiah to make it 5-6! and then who else better then the guy we wanted to give the good bye to, to score and cap off a wonderful move by the team for the final goal in the dying minutes of the match other than walther! 6-6! What an exciting match! so the Man-of-the-Match goes to our top striker, Walther! and well done, guys!
haha..if only a couple more of you guys (stan, ian, mingsheng, etc etc) were there i would dare say we would have a greater chance of winning.
anyways on the 2nd of Feb, the CPYF trotted out onto the field at Blk 50 (known as The Beach) for its testimonial match for Walther.
players present were: A-drain, James, Ben, Joseph, Jeremy, Lingwei, Lingkang, Danny, Charles, Tim, Elvin, Hsien, Jeremiah (friend of both me and joseph), Eugene, Walther (of course!), Jessen, Kah Onn (who were both late..lol) and me.
cheerleaders present were: Angeline, Lisa, Grace, Rachael, Sarah and JQ.
started the match like this: gk-hsien, rb-danny, lb-charles, cb-adrain, james, cm-ben, jeremiah, rm, joseph, lm-me, fw-eugene, walther.
match kicked off from right to left with Pandan in the orange/yellow/red and Galilee in the blue. Initially we were intent on playing the short game but alas the pitch was way too muddy and water logged for that. And soon because the ball wasn't gettin to the midfield and forwards fast enough that the defence came under siege and before long we conceeded the first of many goals. 0-1 to Galilee! Play continued scrappily and although we did battle hard before long, a poor clearance led to Galilee's 2nd goal. 0-2! Oh boy! Now we were in trouble heh. haha my friend did a write up on the team which usually plays at the chinese high street soccer pitch and here's wat he said abt me :P
"Joel L: One of our better players probably. Good touch, good position, good heading ability, good shot, but not the best defensively (though not too bad). I think he's a wee bit soft a times though, sometimes the opposition nick the ball off him too easily. Lack of concentration at times? Wee bit lightweight. One of our better passers."
lol..i hafta admit its embarrassingly true. i'm weak defensively and not agressive enough haha..which means that i've gotta learn how to hack down and get into scuffles more. rofles. me lightweight? haha..duh :P i'm like 57 kg lah..! owells..boring day today aight..got stuff to do so hafta run off soon..

tired and pleased
back from soccer and boy am i tired..!
had a 1-2-3 of sorts.
i scored 1 goal..
i hit the bar 2 times..
i assisted 3 goals...
so quite good :)
walther's testimonial was not without several ugly scenes and however we came out with a favourable result which was 6-6. haha..i bet that if singapore pools had a bet open for this match, sure to make from bettin >10 goals haha.. (sounds like s-league huh?).
Down 3-0 in the first half due to more than scrappy defending. we made up for it in the 2nd half however playin a more compact and direct game. here was the team: gk-joseph lb-charles rb-lingwei cb-kah onn cb-ben cm-jessen cm-walther rm-jere lm-danny fw-eugene fw-me. right off the kick off and we pressed their mid and def and walther had a good run and that ended in the back of the net for our 1st goal. what followed was a somewhat more one sided half that saw us score 6 goals to tie the match.
thank God for the weather which although it rained, the rain stopped before the game so we could proceed in that mud bath. :)

peeved
first of all, i found out my relatives & cousins were coming over tonight yesterday nite. so had to rush and prepare the place. stayed up till 4 packing my room and then doing some other work. woke up at 8 cuz of serena's sms and then after dozing off again waking up for good and cleaning the outside windows. and after which i thought i could run off for my pool appointment with johan and joesph which i was already a good hour late. but my mum started to nag abt this and that so i just hurried off.
having less than 4 hours of sleep, irritation from naggin mother and no form is no condition to play pool. no idea how i won my 5 racks. and then went for lunch and cottage meeting which i met my group for the first time this year.. not much changed just that my mei, david and clarice have been added in. left early with serena (dinner), clarice (friend's hse) and yong hui (aunt's hse). rushed to get otahs and 7-up. came back rushed here and there, doing stuff..
then they came. and we had dinner and small talk and then bridge began. or rather spades. paired up with daniel, who at the beginning was quite ok. then we made up to 500pts and won and then deuel and tze wei wanted to keep the pairin so we continued till 700pts. and thats were it all started to go downhill.
to me its fine if we play well and things just dun turn out rite. i can say at least we tried, see. but he wasn't even paying attn lah! 2-3 games i just cannot tahan and just lost on purpose, thanks to really dumb plays by him. thank goodness we won or i cfm not gonna play anymore. was really really pek chek. i haven't felt that way in any game since i played wensheng and that was becuz like dan, he didn't even bother to give me a good game and just threw it. great now i hear he says i've got no sportmanship. :rollseyes:
